Post-Loss Contents Inventory
After a fire, flood, or theft, the carrier will ask for an itemized contents inventory. This workbook calculates depreciation and actual cash value the way adjusters do and tracks the recoverable depreciation you can claim after you replace each item.

Questions
How is depreciation calculated?
Age divided by useful life, applied to replacement cost, usually capped so an item never depreciates to zero. The workbook uses a useful-life table by category that you can edit, and shows the percentage for each item so you can challenge it.
What is recoverable depreciation?
On a replacement cost policy, the carrier pays actual cash value first and the withheld depreciation after you replace the item and submit proof. The tracking columns record what you replaced and when so you can claim it before the policy deadline.
Can the adjuster use their own useful-life figures?
Yes, and they often do. Having your own calculation itemized gives you a basis to negotiate instead of accepting a lump sum.
What if I cannot remember what I paid?
Use the current price of a comparable item as replacement cost and estimate the age. The inventory is a sworn statement in substance, so be honest and mark estimates as estimates.
