Questions
Should I run a broker RFP or market the account myself?
A broker RFP selects an advisor; marketing the account selects a carrier. Doing both at once confuses carriers and can block markets. The RFP includes language to assign markets so each broker approaches different carriers.
How long does a broker RFP take?
Allow 60 to 90 days from issuing the RFP to a decision, and finish at least 90 days before renewal so the winning broker has time to market the program.
What should I ask about compensation?
Commission rates, any contingent or supplemental commission, fees, and whether the broker will disclose carrier compensation in writing each year. The RFP asks for it and the scoring sheet weights transparency.
Can a nonprofit or school district use this?
Yes; the structure is modeled on public-entity procurement. Add your organization's required procurement clauses in the section provided.
